Ties to the Land is a program directed at easing the transition of a forest property from one generation to the next. In USA and in many other countries the laws and regulations give little on non guidance in how to carry out at successful handover. Many forest owners are the first generation forest owners and few are prepared when the day comes to pass the property to the next generation.
TheTies to land Program aims at preparing the forest families for a change, and start talking and planning the future in due time. The program started in Oregon and are now spread nationwide. The questions after the presentation revealed that the generation issues is very present in a lot of forest owner countries and even in countries with community forest and areas without individual ownership.
